Kuʻu Nani Koʻolau: “Our Beautiful Windward Side” in 1976 — an unusual and scarce community-history publication created by students of Castle High School in Kāneʻohe, Hawaii as an approved project of the Hawaii State Bicentennial Commission. Produced in 1976, the publication documents the history, people, landscapes and changing communities of Windward Oʻahu, including Kāneʻohe, Heʻeia, Kahaluʻu, Kualoa, Waiāhole and Waikāne. The book includes student-written local history, interviews and recollections from longtime residents, historic photographs, illustrations, maps, legends and discussions of subjects including Kāneʻohe Bay, agriculture, railroads, trails, community development, Kualoa, Waiāhole and the changing Windward landscape. The cover states that the publication was created by Castle High School students in 1976 and was an approved Hawaii State Bicentennial Commission project. A particularly interesting piece of locally produced Hawaiiana and Windward Oʻahu history that appears to have had extremely limited distribution. Vintage pre-owned condition with expected age-related wear. Cover shows toning, rubbing, edge/corner wear and scattered marks. Rear cover has discoloration/spotting concentrated near the upper edge and corner. Interior pages show age toning and occasional minor wear but remain readable and intact. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. Date: 1976 Creator: Students of Castle High School, K
