This is a rare collectible that even the most dedicated Harlan Ellison fans probably never knew existed. Ellison's classic short story "Jeffty Is Five" was reprinted in the special commemorative 100th issue of RadioActive magazine, which was available only to radio station members of the National Association of Broadcasters (aka NAB). Copies could not be bought at any retail locations, in other words. I was the magazine's editor, and later received a letter (dated October 8, 1984) from Ellison that said, "The 100th issue of RadioActive is at hand and I am delighted. What you promised you would do, and what you were sedulous in pursuing -- the publication of a canonical text, free of errors for the first time, auctorially preferred in every particular -- you have done precisely and wonderfully. 'Jeffrey Is Five', in this version, is the one that henceforth will be used as a model for setting copy wherever it is reprinted. Thank you. You may repeat that phrase a few more times." Which made me feel pretty good. Anyhow: "Jeffty Is Five" takes up a whopping seven pages of the 24-page (including covers) magazine, which is in Very Fine condition. Only a couple of minor impressions on the back cover (see close-up photos) and an all but insignificant amount of corner wear at top and bottom of the spine (ditto). I am the first
