RAVEN — HCI Publication — Vintage All-Male Photo Magazine A scarce 1980s all-male photo magazine devoted entirely to Black models, published under the HCI imprint. Full-color studio and location photography throughout, from the reclining cover study in blue to duo sessions and physique poses against classic ‘80s glass-block and studio backdrops. Back cover carries the publisher’s original “Adults Only — Models Are 18 Years or Older” statement. Titles dedicated to Black models from this era are significantly harder to find than the mainstream runs — most were smaller print runs with limited distribution, and surviving copies rarely come to market. This copy retains its original vintage store price sticker on the cover, left in place as a mark of provenance Randy: An all-Black-male issue from the Janus run, and a cut above the era’s usual studio work: the standout pictorial poses its model in cowry-shell regalia against hand-painted African textile backdrops, styled editorial photography carried through to the sepia-toned back cover with carved sculpture. Color and black-and-white throughout, including multi-panel contact-sheet layouts. Black-interest titles from this era were smaller print runs with limited distribution, and surviving copies are genuinely scarce.
