SPURS Issue 25 1997 COLT Studio Rip Colt/JIM FRENCH Vintage Gay Magazine

$139 · Offered by eBay

SPURS, Issue 25 — a COLT Studio presentation. Copyright 1997, with a printed date of issuance of September 1, 1997. Original cover price $15.95, full color throughout. SIGNED BY RIP COLT. Jim French founded COLT Studio in 1967 and worked under the Rip Colt name for four decades, producing the most influential body of work in American gay male photography. His signature closes the editorial in this issue. He died in 2017, and material carrying his working signature has appreciated steadily since. THE EDITOR EXPLAINS A LATE SEQUEL. French writes that this second part was meant to follow the first within months, that years went by instead, and that when the project finally came together the decision was made to use newer photographs rather than the substantial archive of unused material from the original shoot. Publishers rarely explain their own delays in print; this one does, plainly and with some humour. A DATED AND ADDRESSED DOCUMENT. The indicia names a custodian of records and gives an exact release date, and it lists a North Hollywood address on Lankershim Boulevard alongside the Studio City box. Earlier issues in this run show Studio City alone — the change records COLT’s move, in the studio’s own printing.. From one of the largest private collections of vintage gay magazines anywhere.
