Gaiyu miyage [Souvenir from Travels Abroad].

£450 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

An epic voyage across continents, told through eleven different countries and their respective traditional dolls. A lovely, small format book by renowned artist and printmaker Sekino Junichiro (1914-1988). The book opens with the exclamation, ‘Ahh, I’ve returned! Please accept these humble souvenirs from abroad’ and closes with ‘In any case, let’s have a Japanese meal. First, cheers!’ (our translation). The book is accompanied by a small fold-out pamphlet entitled Muda-sho (‘waste writing’), which contains some short passages by Sekino. Rare. Only 2 copies in OCLC (The Met; National Diet Library).
