Originally conceived of as a ten-volume history, this is a vintage set of Will and Ariel Durant's The Story of Civilization Volumes 1-10.The couple began writing the first book in the series in 1929 and the books were published from 1935 to 1967. Volume 10, Rousseau and Revolution, won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968. Wikipedia notes that "after finding their initial retirement unfullfilling" the Durants decided to write an 11th volume which was published in 1975 and is not included with this set. A wonderful resource for a home library.
