Complete 5-piece 1976 Polynesian Voyaging Society educational set centered on Polynesian voyaging and Hōkūleʻa. Included are all four illustrated children's books in the series: • The Vision of Mo‘ikeha (Ka Moe‘uhane O Mo‘ikeha) by Nancy Alpert Mower • A Canoe for Uncle Kila (No Kila ka Wa‘a Kaulua) by Stanley Kapepa • The Voyage to Tahiti (Ka Huaka‘i I Kahiki) by Nancy Alpert Mower • Hōkūle‘a by Maralyn Blackman Also included is the companion A Resource Curriculum Guide on Polynesian Voyaging, written by Cecilia Kapua Lindo, edited by Nancy Alpert Mower, with cover design by Allen Akina, published by the Polynesian Voyaging Society in Honolulu in April 1976. Cover artwork is signed ‘Allen Akina’ within the printed design. The curriculum guide was specifically created to accompany the four books and contains individual teaching units for each title, along with material on Polynesian navigation, traditional double-hulled canoes, a map of Polynesia, Hawaiian history, voyaging traditions, bibliography, and related resources. This is an especially interesting surviving group because the books and curriculum guide remain together as the educational set for which they were created. The material dates to 1976, the year of Hōkūleʻa's historic voyage from Hawaiʻi to Tahiti. Condition: Vintage used condition with age-related wear throughout.
