This wide-ranging volume covers the hygiene procedures required to prevent malaria, trench foot, lice infestations, smallpox, bilharzia, and plague. It also contains chapters on food rationing and nutrition science, with a view to avoiding food deficiency diseases. This copy was issued for review by the publisher's with their stamp on the title page.Major-General Macpherson (1858-1927) fought as a medical officer in the Second Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War, and finally in the First World War. In 1914 he was the deputy to Sir Arthur Sloggett as director-general of the British Army's Medical Service at the War Office, but he left that role on the outbreak of war to join the Army Medical Service Staff. During the war he was mentioned in despatches nine times, picking up the sobriquet "Tiger Mac" on account of his ferocious energy and attention to detail.
