Onyeama (Dillibe) Ni**er at Eton, first edition, small marginal spots to a few pp., original boards, slight vertical crease to spine, spine ends and corner tips lightly rubbed, spotting and toning to edges, small stain to foot, dust-jacket, chipping and nicking to extremities, light toned at verso, 8vo, 1972. *** The memoir follows the adolescence of the author who was the first black child to finish studying at Eton College, and the racism he experienced during his four years at the prestigious college between 1965 and 1969. When it was published in 1972 by Leslie Frewin (when the author was 21), the book caused a great deal of controversy, indicting Eton as a racist institution. Onyeama was banned from ever setting foot on college campus. It was only in 2020 that the ban was rescinded and the headmaster issued an apology. The work remains an important literary case of English Black history.
