This is actually the July, 1958 edition of this publication updated by the 1965 Supplement at the rear of the book. The preface of the Supplement states "In 1949, the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey published Volume XIX, Caverns of West Virginia, by William E. Davies. This book was so popular that it was revised and reprinted in 1958 as Volume XIX (A). All stocks of these printings have been exhausted, so it was necessary to reprint the book [i.e., the 1958 edition] this year to meet the continuing requests for information on the caverns of our state. This Supplement of Volume XIX (A) contains data and maps of new caves as well as further information on caves decribed in in the earlier volumes." In other words, the 72 page supplement updates the prior text in the book to 1965. The book presents the geology of caves, descriptions of some 500 +/- caves with surveys and photos of many of the larger caves explored for this book. From the personal library of William E. Davies (1917-1990), USGS (United States Geological Survey) geologist, speleologist, polar explorer, and recipient of the Antarctic Medal from US Congress.
