Antique circa 1868 Hymns for the Use of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Revised Edition, published in New York by Carlton & Lanahan, 200 Mulberry Street. Small pocket-size devotional hymnal in an ornate blind-stamped dark leather binding with decorative Victorian cover design and gilt spine lettering. Contains hundreds of early Methodist hymns arranged by subjects including worship, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Christian life, prayer, fellowship and eternity. Includes period handwritten ownership/gift inscriptions providing additional history. A wonderful approximately 155-year-old survivor for a collector of antique hymnals, Methodist history, religious books or Victorian devotional books.
