Antique 1838 edition of Church Psalmody: A Collection of Psalms and Hymns, Adapted to Public Worship, published in Boston by Perkins & Marvin and in Philadelphia by Henry Perkins. The collection was compiled by noted American church musician Lowell Mason with David Greene, drawing extensively from Isaac Watts and other early hymn writers. Bibliographic records confirm this 1838 Perkins & Marvin edition. Small-format volume in an original period leather binding with gilt spine title. Includes hundreds of psalms and hymns plus an extensive index of first lines. An especially nice historical feature is the early handwritten ownership inscription dated 1839, only about a year after publication.
