Original 1924 edition of Authentic History of the Ku Klux Klan, 1865-1877 by Susan Lawrence Davis. Published by the author in New York in 1924. SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY. The front endpaper contains a handwritten presentation inscription signed by author Susan Lawrence Davis and dated 1927: “For Mr. Llewellyn F. Dyson With best wishes of the authoress Susan Lawrence Davis 1927” Illustrated throughout with historical photographs, portraits and reproductions relating to the Reconstruction-era Ku Klux Klan and its early organizers. Original gray cloth hardcover with gilt lettering and illustrated gilt design to the front cover. This book is an important period artifact documenting the historical interpretation and ideology surrounding the Reconstruction-era Klan during the early 20th century. The author’s treatment is strongly sympathetic toward the organization and reflects the Lost Cause/Klan historiography of its period; it should not be considered a neutral modern historical account. Condition: Antique used condition with cover and spine wear, rubbing and fading to the gilt, age toning, foxing/spotting and other normal signs of age.
