ITEM DESCRIPTION This is a 1927 (Showa 2) first-edition Japanese translation of Friedrich Schiller's play "Don Carlos," published by Iwanami Shoten as Volume 10 in their "German Literature Series" (独逆文學叉書). The translation is by Sato Tsuji (佐藤通次). The book is a hardcover volume housed in its original protective slipcase, measuring approximately 19.5 x 14.5 x 2.5 cm (7.7 x 5.7 x 1.0 in). No additional accessories are included. Language: Japanese. Condition: The original slipcase shows rubbing, soiling, discoloration, and small tears. The top edge and text block show light overall toning and minor spotting throughout, with some discoloration to the endpapers and a few text pages. None of this affects readability. Please review the photos closely, as this is a nearly 100-year-old book. Trivia: "Don Carlos" is Friedrich Schiller's five-act blank-verse tragedy, first published in 1787, dramatizing the fictionalized life of Don Carlos, Prince of Asturias, son of King Philip II of Spain. The translator of this edition, Sato Tsuji, later published a revised translation of the same play under the title "スペインの太子ドン・カルロス" (The Spanish Crown Prince: Don Carlos) in the Iwanami Bunko paperback series
