This book is designed as an introduction to those phys-ical problems that have dominated the study of astron-omy for the past several years. It will be of value to the advanced undergraduate or graduate student of astron-omy, physics, or mathematics. It will also serve as an excellent reference for industry and research work. In-troduction to Celestial Mechanics makes extensive use of vector methods and presents the basic ideas of orbit calculation. Numerous problems are included. The reader is assumed to have a background in differ-ential equations and some familiarity with vector nota-tion and operations. He is also assumed to have had an introduction to dynamics, although a brief introduction to dynamical principles is included in Chapter 1. The introduction of canonical equations, the Hamilton-Jacobi theory, and other general and elegant methods are avoided in this first approach to celestial mechanics.
