BUCK: Stories by Lloyd “Buck” Bader Collected by Jim Garry Trade Paperback | 1984 Reprint | Self-published by Jim Garry Here is a scarce, signed volume of real hunting and outdoor stories from a man who lived them—Lloyd “Buck” Bader, known to friends as Ole Buckskin. Most of these tales center on the hunt: North American game, the rhythms of the field, and, notably, African adventures. This is not armchair outdoor writing. It is the collected voice of a dedicated hunter and outdoorsman, set down by the Wyoming storyteller and folklorist Jim Garry. 183 pages of narrative, plus an 11-page black-and-white photo section that puts faces, camps, and prey into view. Measures 8.5" × 5.5"—a practical size that slips easily into a daypack or sits well on a shelf of hunting literature. This is a later printing with a photo cover (the first edition used a drawing). Copyright 1984. No other edition or printing statements appear. Self-published by Garry, the same collector who later brought wider attention to Western oral history. The book preserves Bader’s own accounts before they could fade. The inscription that sets this copy apart: On the title page, in black ink, in Buck’s hand: “Best Wishes to you Bob From Ole Buckskin Oct 2, 1990” Six years after publication, the hunter still signed himself “Ole Buckskin.” That nickname, informal and earned, gives the book a personal charge you will not find in unsigned copies. It is the mark of a man who spent his time afield rather than at a desk.
