FEMINISM SPOKEN HERE. A visually striking piece of ephemera from the height of the women's liberation movement. The Spokeswoman was a prominent feminist newsletter published by the Washington Women's News Service during the 1970s and 1980s. They were based out of Chicago from 1970 to 1978, and Falls Church, Virginia, from 1979 to 1981. A variant poster in the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art featuring the same design attributes authorship to Art For People, a Washington, D.C.-based graphics collective. The horizontal folds indicate that this poster may have been been folded and mailed as part of one of the monthly newsletters.
