Book is in good overall shape with some wear to the spine and some chipping on the edges, no writing inside and binding is good The Sword and the Dagger by Ardath Mayhar was the second BattleTech novel ever to be published in print by FASA in February 1987; it is nevertheless sometimes listed as the first BattleTech novel because it was the first to be commissioned. It was in fact the first tie-in novel to ever be solicited for the nascent BattleTech universe, but the original contract authors bowed out of the contract which was then transferred to Mayhar. This delayed the writing and publication process so that it only came out after Decision at Thunder Rift, the first BattleTech novel to be published. Unlike all other BattleTech print novels, The Sword and the Dagger notably never saw a reprint nor was it republished in electronic format. The exact reason for this has not been disclosed but is thought to be rooted in the unusual contractual background; it was apparently written under a contract that was different from all subsequent BattleTech fiction
