The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories. First edition of the debut publication by Blackwood, "the leading British writer of supernatural fiction during the Edwardian and Georgian periods... no one else has come closer to expressing the ineffable" (Bleiler).The stories were published after Blackwood's friend Angus Hamilton sent them on to the publisher Eveleigh Nash without Blackwood's knowledge. He later recalled that, on receiving a letter of acceptance, "it was some little time before I realized what the publisher was talking about" (Episodes, p. 224).This collection contains ten stories, including "The Empty House", "A Haunted Island", and "A Case of Eavesdropping".
