Banksy — Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall (2001) Up for sale is an original copy of Banksy's first self-published book, Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall, printed in 2001 under his own short-lived imprint "Weapons of Mass Disruption." Long before Banksy became a global name, this small paperback was sold at club nights and events rather than through bookshops. This copy was bought exactly that way, in person at a club, at the time of its original release. I purchased it off of a table that had booklets, zines, artwork and items by a variety of people, in a club in east London (the club no longer exists). The book collects nearly 100 black-and-white photographs of Banksy's early stencil and graffiti work from Bristol and London, alongside reader letters, quotes and his own commentary — much of this material later reappeared, reworked, in Wall and Piece. Why this copy stands out: Full imprint page intact and legible: "Published by Weapons of Mass Disruption," email contact, ©Banksy 2001, and ISBN 0-9541704-0-7 — the wording collectors associate with the earliest print run of this title (see photos). Interior pages have a glossy finish throughout rather than the more common matte stock — a variation noted by specialist Banksy dealers as scarcer than the standard printing.
