Volkswagen: A Week at the Factory, photographed by Peter Keetman, with essays by Armin Kley, Dirk Nishen and Rolf Sachasse. First American edition of a highly respected European landmark in modernist and industrial photography. Peter Keetman visited the Wofsburg factory in 1953, and 71 of his striking, often abstract, duotone photos in this book go far beyond the usual industrial imagery. Stacks of bumpers or roofs, piles of sheet metal, heaped nuts and gears -- all were shot with the eye of a master to portray not mere transportation but art. Essays place the Beetle -- one of the most popular automobiles in history -- and the plant -- a driver of Germany's post-war economic recovery -- in context of photography, manufacturing, and design. A chronology of Keetman's life and career tracks his works and exhibits. 93 pages of heavy gloss stock ISBN 0-8118-0268-X I marked the condition as "good" because there are a few light pencil marks on the essay pages.
