Please see all the photos which show the condition in detail. The book is still solidly bound, however I show that when opened to the middle of the book you can see the underlying binding. I don't notice this on any other pages. The dust jacket is original and has small tears and a wide piece of tape applied on the jacket where the a former owner thought it needed securing. There are a some light discolorations or smudges on the front hardcover, which are visible in the photo, but it is otherwise in good shape. Flyleaf is signed by the former owner in green fountain pen, name and May 1946. The Maltese Falcon is a 1930 detective novel by American writer Dashiell Hammett, originally serialized in the magazine Black Mask beginning with the September 1929 issue. The story is told entirely in external third-person narrative; there is no description whatsoever of any character's thoughts or feelings, only what they say and do, and how they look. The novel has been adapted several times for the cinema. It is considered part of the hardboiled genre, which Hammett played a major part in popularizing. There have been four film adaptations of The Maltese Falcon (1941), the third and best-known version, starring Humphrey Bogart, is considered to be a film noir classic.
