Showa 17 [ 1942] Description: 32 colourfully illustrated card pages in stapled pictorial light card covers. Covers chipped and marked, torn along spine, staples rusted and broken. Has been neatly repaired with glue at some time presumably to stabilise the spine but causing the first four pages not to open fully to the gutter however most of the content on these pages can still be read. Central gathering loose in binding but all pages are present. A fold inside the lower cover is empty, but it is unclear if it should have an inclusion. Vertical crease lower cover. Published during the Second World War this book exhibits the typical war-time characteristics of poor quality binding and card and although now fragile, it is a fascinating book, further enhanced by the war-time owner's addition of added comments and clippings. 26 x 18.5cm. A scarce colourful illustrated publication for children, issued in August 1942, detailing Japan's military advances in the Pacific, and encouraging readers to follow the progress of the war. The work is interestingly designed, with pages of various size
