Blue cloth blocked in gilt; top edge gilt, others uncut; covers very slightly marked and rubbed; a couple of trifling spots of foxing; ownership details in ink and pencil on the front free endpaper; an excellent copy with the very good dustwrapper (a little torn and sunned, with a few small chips). 'Lawrence felt strongly that a long series of translations (his own is the 28th English version) had overlaid Homer's strength and directness of narrative with a veneer of literature, and he was at great pains to restore its lost vitality' (from the dustwrapper blurb). This prose translation was first published in 1932, with limited and trade editions in America and a limited edition only in Britain.
