Collection of offprints on genetics and Mendelian theory. First editions, offprint issues. Castle was an early advocate of Mendelian genetics after its rediscovery in 1900. He specialized in mammalian genetics, particularly in guinea pigs. His work on the mathematical foundations of Mendel's theories anticipated the Hardy-Weinberg law."The Heredity of Albinism" (1903) is a presentation copy, bearing the author's compliments stamp on the front wrapper, along with the ownership stamp of Mary A. Bowers, instructor of zoology at Wellesley College. Her ownership signature is also on the front wrapper of "The Laws of Heredity of Galton and Mendel, and Some Laws Governing Race Improvement by Selection" (1903).The collection includes Castle's (1867-1962) introductory paper offering an overview of the rediscovered theory, "Mendel's Law of Heredity" (1903). Also included are his articles on the theories of William Bateson and August Weismann. The offprints originally appeared in Science, the Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Journal of Experimental Zoology, the Journal of Heredity (Organ of the American Genetic Association), and Popular Science Monthly. There is also an offprint from the Mark Anniversary Volume (1903), a festschrift honouring Edwards Laurens Mark.A full list is available upon request.
