The Works. The Drury Lane edition, number 1 of 385 sets sold to subscribers only. This deluxe publication is printed on Holland paper and features many illustrations which appeared in early Fielding editions, with a hand-coloured plate, each signed by their various colourist. The introduction was contributed by W. E. Henley (1849-1903), the author of "Invictus", whose literary "editorship has become something of a legend" (ODNB).The limitation page to Volume I notes that this copy was bound for a Mr J. G. Ward. Ward's collection, "including library sets of noted authors, many in fine bindings" was auctioned in New York in 1924 after his death (Art News, p. 4).
