Hogarth Moralized; Later edition of this commentary on Hogarth's prints, first published in 1768, featuring plates etched by a variety of artists including Cruikshank. In 1766 Hogarth's widow, Jane, commissioned the Reverend Trusler to produce the analysis, which she then published and sold. Trusler "turned Hogarth's satiric plates into full-fledged sermons" (Landow, p. 39).Trusler (1735-1820), who styled himself as a doctor despite not having finished his medical degree, published work on a wide array of subjects: medicine, farming, history, manners, law, theology, travel, and gardening. He was an "enthusiastic and fearless compiler of others' works" (ODNB).
