This copy is the original first edition published by Toshi Shuppansha in 1971. The original edition became known as a “phantom book” because, despite being published in 1971, circumstances surrounding the publisher and distribution prevented it from being widely available through ordinary bookstores. The book is centered on film stills photographed by Tsutomu Endo, together with private photographs and snapshots of Ken Takakura. It also features work by several major Japanese photographers, including Eikoh Hosoe, Yoshihiro Tatsuki, Daido Moriyama, and Kenji Ishiguro. The volume also includes valuable textual material, including Tadanori Yokoo's interview with Ken Takakura and a detailed chronology.
