Pocket Guide to Arabic. First edition, first printing, untraced in any Middle Eastern libraries. Aramco formed its training department at Dhahran in the early 1950 and appointed the geologist Roy Lebkicher as director. This guide was designed to be used in concert with a phonograph recording of spoken words and phrases. The sample conversations cover "getting acquainted", visits to clients and offices (including the useful phrase "do you like your work?"), and trips to the shops.Lebkicher (1895-1968) joined Standard Oil of California in 1924 and made his first trip to Saudi Arabia in 1935. He spent most of the 1930s and 1940s in the US in charge of government, public, and employee relations, later becoming assistant to the executive vice president. In 1952, he transferred to Saudi Arabia to take up his new appointment.
