A Savage Culture: Racism - a black British view. First edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-tRitle: "To Jessica, with Quality Time in mind. Remi Kapo. 23 February 1982". The recipient was the civil rights campaigner Jessica "Decca" Freeman-Mitford (1917-1996), whose review of this work is quoted on the rear cover: "The best insight into racism in Britain that I have ever read". Kapo (b. 1946) came to Britain from Nigeria in 1953. A Savage Culture examines the entrenchment of racism in post-war Britain and argues that it was exacerbated by a refusal to accept the loss of empire; the book is dedicated to "young Britons who have not yet made up their minds".
