Spatial Patterns of Bedouin Settlement in Al-Qasim Region Saudi Arabia. A pioneering study from original field research in northern central Saudi Arabia. This work grew out of the author's doctoral thesis at the University of Kentucky, published in the same year. The author was on the faculty of the Department of Geography at the University of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This study begins with "Ibn Saud's first attempts to settle Saudi Arabia's large nomadic population... At present very little is known of the Bedouin settlement process which is creating distinctive settlement patterns in Saudi Arabia. Study of the process of sedentarization should shed some light on the original, structure, and function of settlement and the role of this changing settlement pattern in the complex cultural ecology of Saudi Arabia" (introduction).
