After she receives a threatening note, a movie cashier is shot in the back. Superintendent Budd investigates. Basis (loosely) for the 1953 movie Noose for a Lady starring Dennis Price, Rona Anderson, and Ronald Howard. Presumed ex-library with the front endpaper removed, notations on the rear pastedown, and an address handwritten in a few spots. Bumped and rubbed with a damp stain to the fore edge of the front board. Front hinge cracked, rear loose. Undated, first published in 1949. Reading copy of a scarce Superintendent Budd mystery.
