Strictly Personal. First trade edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Eddie, William S. writes his name", and additionally signed on the title page, with his printed name struck through. The recipient was Edward Wasserman, a New York-based banker, art collector, and socialite; this copy has his engraved bookplate designed by the Parisian avant-garde and Cubist artist Marie Laurencin. Wasserman was the subject of portraits by Laurencin (1935) and Dalí (1933). He was also a close friend of Nella Larsen.Strictly Personal was first published in a signed limited edition on 3 September 1941; this trade edition, printed from the same formes, was published two days later.
