The Cocktail Party. First edition, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Rex Harrison with the author's gratitude and appreciation. T. S. Eliot. The New Theatre: May 1950". Sir Rex Harrison starred as the "Unidentified Guest" to great success when the play transferred to London in May 1950. It had premiered at the Edinburgh Festival from 22 to 27 August 1949.The Cocktail Party is one of Eliot's major plays, an absurdist drama about a married couple whose relationship is mended by a stranger at a London cocktail party. This copy has the misprint of 'here' for 'her' on page 29. Gallup notes that copies with and without the error were bound and issued simultaneously.
