Dombey and Son. First edition, in the original monthly parts, serialized from October 1946 to April 1848. Dombey and Son is "now recognized as one of the greatest of all his works... It is also the first one to have an explicitly contemporary setting" (ODNB).All the advertisements are present and the set conforms to Hatton & Cleaver's collation of earliest issue throughout, except in the following particulars: Part 8 Dombey & Son Advertiser giving "Portrait of Douglas Jerrold" rather than "Vanity Fair" (p. 5); Part 14 including rather than omitting the pagination on page 431 and the "if" on page 426, line 9; and Part 19 with the 8-line errata.
