Judy Bax's father was headmaster of the school Ballard attended in the Lunghua camp and was instrumental in getting him into The Leys school in Cambridge; Martin Bax (1933-2024) was a writer and editor of the Ambit magazine, which published 41 pieces by Ballard.Ballard was close friends with the couple and regularly took his children to lunch with them.
