Arabian Adventure. First edition, inscribed by the author on the frontispiece, "With Best Wishes, Anthony Shepherd." Shepherd served with the Trucial Oman Scouts between July 1957 and March 1959, first as a regimental signals officer and then as a squadron commander. He recalls fighting with Carter Squadron during the Jebel Akhdar War, life in Sharjah, and the situation in Buraimi, where he was based for the second half of his two-year posting. In his foreword, John Bagot Glubb praises Shepherd as the latest in a long line of British adventurers in Arabia. "There was and is nothing of 'Imperialism' (as now depicted) in this phenomenon, that is to say, no desire to dominate or exploit, nor even any political ambition. It is purely a human love, the love of honest adventurous and vivacious youth for simple, straightforward, and loyal fighting men" (pp. 7-8).
