First edition
First Edition, First Printing, with the required Scribner’s “A” and publisher’s seal on the copyright page. Original publisher’s red cloth with Hemingway’s facsimile signature stamped in black on the front board and black/gilt spine decoration. Includes Hemingway’s only full-length play, The Fifth Column, together with his first forty-nine stories. This volume also contains the first book appearances of several important Hemingway stories, including “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” and “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.” Condition: Good vintage condition. Original red cloth shows considerable age-related wear, fading/soiling and staining, particularly to the boards and spine, with wear and fraying at the spine ends and corners. Page edges are heavily toned. Interior appears generally clean and binding remains intact. Please examine photos carefully. Includes a modern facsimile/reproduction dust jacket in protective cover. This is NOT the original 1938 dust jacket. The reproduction jacket is clearly identified as such on the flap. Photos are of the actual book and form part of the condition description.
