Original 1897 issue of Le Rire, the celebrated French illustrated humor and satirical magazine published during the Belle Époque. This is No. 130, 3rd year, dated May 1, 1897, making it an especially attractive early issue of Le Rire. The wonderful color cover titled “Au Salon” is illustrated by French artist Lucien Métivet (1863–1932). It depicts an elegantly dressed Belle Époque woman and gentleman admiring a sculpted bust at an art exhibition—a humorous take on Parisian society and the famous annual Salon.
