Abu Dhabi map. The earliest and most detailed modern survey of the emirate, produced during Sheikh Zayed's Five Year Plan (1968-1972). An Arabic edition was also published around the same time. While undated, the map covers events up to January 1970 and forecasts others from February 1970, with references to the principles for the federation of Arab Emirates in 1968, but not to the establishment of the UAE in 1971. The "Abu Dhabi in Brief" box outlines the geographical area, oil and pearling interests, population up to 1969, tribes and their locations. The "Oil in Abu Dhabi" box summarizes oil concessions granted up to January 1970.The main map, colour-blocked for altitudes, shows pearl fishing areas, prehistoric and ancient sites, old forts, oil and water infrastructure, geographical features, settlements of varying size, roads (distinguishing those under construction and important tracks), airports and airfields, and ports.The inset "Abu Dhabi - The Capital of the Emirate" shows the urban layout with the main buildings, including the old fort and new palace, government departments, airport, and industrial and residential areas. "Al-Ain and Suburbs" shows its border with Buraimi from Jebel Hafit to Hili, with the key urban features. It is described as the seat of the Heir Apparent, with many Al Nahyan forts and farms.
