First edition
Original 1926 hardcover edition of Adventures of the Sailing Sofa by Howard R. Garis, published by Grosset & Dunlap as part of the Happy Home Series and illustrated by Lang Campbell. Garis was also the prolific author of the Uncle Wiggily stories. A wonderfully unusual early children's fantasy in which Skippy the sofa dreams of becoming a sailor and sets off on an adventure, accompanied by a rooster and Tatter, a rag doll. Contemporary publisher material confirms the title as part of Garis's whimsical Happy Home Series. Features a black-and-white illustrated frontispiece and charming color illustrations throughout. The copyright page states 1926, Grosset & Dunlap. This copy is without the original dust jacket. Red/orange cloth hardcover shows expected age-related wear, including rubbing, light soiling and wear at corners and spine ends. Pages show normal toning associated with age. Illustrations remain attractive and colorful. Please review photographs carefully for exact condition. A particularly appealing collectible for fans of Howard R. Garis, Lang Campbell, Uncle Wiggily, early children's fantasy and unusual illustrated children's books. --- Howard R Garis, Adventures of the Sailing Sofa, Happy Home Series, Lang Campbell, Uncle Wiggily, Grosset Dunlap, 1926 children's book, antique children's book, vintage illustrated book, color illustrations, children's fantasy, anthropomorphic furniture, Sailing Sofa, collectible children's literature, 1920s children's book
