Das politische Plakat: eine psychologische Betrachtung. First edition of the Nazi Party's own illustrated study of political propaganda posters, produced for internal use as a handbook for party propagandists.Schockel was a leading figure in the party's propaganda apparatus and declared in his introduction that "we have the political poster to thank for the fact that a liberalist and a Marxist worldview were forced to the ground and that National Socialism conquered the Reich" (translated). The book reproduces British, French, American, and German First World War posters, followed by German political posters from across the political spectrum in the 1920s and early 1930s, many of them explicitly anti-Nazi. It then covers posters since the Nazis came to power, all of which, naturally, were then tightly controlled by the party.Although conceived as a handbook to indoctrinate and mobilize the people, the work has long been recognized as historically valuable. It is one of the earliest works to study and illustrate political propaganda across different countries, and it collects numerous posters which survive in few examples. Schockel comments on the effect of each poster, revealing the party's thinking in designing its own propaganda and maximizing impact. The book was produced for internal Nazi Party use, not public sale, and remained party property. TThis copy has the library stamp on the front free endpaper of the party's district leadership at Uelzen.
