Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Uncorrected proof copy, second state, in green wrappers and with several textual changes compared to the first state, in purple wrappers. Bloomsbury only issued proof copies for the first three Harry Potter novels, stopping after Prisoner of Azkaban as sales became so great that they did not want storylines revealed early.Bloomsbury's records suggest they printed 150 copies of each state, though the figures of 50 purple proofs and 250 green proofs are more accepted. However, one publisher's memo of 14 January 1999 from 'Roz', presumably the marketing manager Rosamund Walker, to 'Reps', notes that Bloomsbury "had to reprint the first proof because there were a couple of changes made... which slightly affected the plot". It continues, "we have printed 150 of the new proof (green) and 31 of the old (purple)". Reps seem to have received "16 proofs each (some of the purple variety)", suggesting both versions were distributed at the same time.
