Marcopoulos turns his camera toward his own household—his wife and two sons—recording the ordinary pleasures, disruptions, injuries, and unguarded moments that form a family’s shared history. Best known for documenting hip-hop, skateboarding, snowboarding, artists, musicians, and youth subcultures, Marcopoulos brings the same immediate, unsentimental approach to his domestic world. Personal photographs are interspersed with landscapes from California, Japan, Europe, and the United States, allowing private life and the broader atmosphere of post-9/11 America to overlap. Published in conjunction with Marcopoulos’s 2005–2006 exhibition at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center/Museum of Modern Art in New York, this first-edition artist book was edited by Marcopoulos and Gilles Gavillet, with an afterword by P.S.1 founder Arianna Heiss.
