LEYEL, Mrs C.F. [Hilda LEYEL]. Diet for Children. London: George Routledge Sons. [1936]. 8vo. Original cloth with illustrated dust-wrapper after a design by Alex Jardine; pp. ix, 145; wrapper a little darkened and with minor flaws; light offsetting from endpapers, one double page with darkened patch along inner margins, due to offsetting from previously inlaid strip of paper, otherwise very good. Scarce first edition, rarely seen with the wrapper. Hilda Leyel (1880-1957) was a leading light in herbalism in Britain. In 1927, she had founded The Society of Herbalists, and went on to establish the Culpeper chain of herbal shops. In this work, Hilda Leyel takes into account the recently discovered vitamins, points out that children should not eat too much meat, and the importance of not forcing infants to eat during periods they don't show any appetite.
