Original cloth, with illustrated dust-wrapper after a design by Rix; pp. 118, [4, advertisements]; the rarely seen wrapper a little frayed, extensive recipes in pencil to endpapers in a contemporary hand, contemporary ownership inscription to front fly-leaf; otherwise very good. Second enlarged edition (first, 1942), of a sought-after wartime cookery book, the last edition of which appeared in 1945. The editor Stanley Lief was a naturopath who ran the periodical on 'natural' nutrition and medicine Health for All . In 1945, he established the British Naturopathic Association. The book contains chapters on drying herbs, making vegetable juices, as well as a recipe for Health Salad . The last recipe, number 276, is for 'vitamin potatoes', enriched with home-made curd cheese, raw spinach and carrot juice as well as fresh parsley. SKU: 2123556
