Views of Shanghai During the Great Snowfall of 1893 (Jubilee Year). First edition, chronicling the winter when the mercury hit 12 degrees below freezing and popular expatriate haunts were blanketed in snow. This photobook, produced only a couple of weeks after the record low, shows such locations as the Bund, the grandstand of the Race Club, and Bubbling Well Road, all mysterious-looking in the cold.Other locations include the public gardens, the Country Club, and Holy Trinity Cathedral. The preface is signed "A. E. M.", almost certainly denoting Arthur Evans Moule (1836-1918), a long-serving missionary.
