Riyadh Souvenir Guide. First edition, unrecorded on WorldCat. This photograph collection features both old and new sites, from the Masmak Fortress through to the University of Riyadh. This guide is undated but was most likely released in the mid-1970s, judging from both the population statistics and the many photos of the Riyadh Water Tower, completed in 1971. The introduction recounts the history of the city, from its founding in the 17th century through to the first Saudi state, the Ottoman Empire, the restoration of the House of Saud, and modern times."In 1902, Adbul Aziz Ibn Abdul Rahman, who was only 20 years old, accompanied by only 40 men with his brother Mohammed and his cousin Abdullah Ibn Jilwai, set out to recover Riyadh. With a daring surprise attack they killed the Rashidi governor, Ajlan. On hearing the news the people of Riyadh welcomed Abdul Aziz back" (p. [3]).
