Collection of 14 press photographs. A collection of press snaps of Bowie taken by various photographers and licensed by London Features International, documenting the star's dizzying array of costumes, poses, personae, and hairstyles, including close-ups of him as the Thin White Duke and Ziggy Stardust. The images largely catch Bowie on stage in mid-performance; one offers a more candid shot of the star smiling. The earliest shot is of Bowie during a performance of his 1969 breakthrough hit, Space Oddity, with shaggy hair and silver jumpsuit. The last, and the most poignant, shows him mid-performance with Marc Bolan - the lead singer of T. Rex - for Bolan's TV show, recorded on 7 September 1977. It was show's last episode: Bolan died in a car crash on barely two weeks after recording, and the episode was broadcast after his funeral.Founded in 1971, London Features International was a syndication agency at the forefront of celebrity photography. The photographers of the present images include Paul Canty, Paul Cox, and Simon Fowler. While individual press photographs of Bowie appear occasionally in commerce, collections of this size are rare.
