"Kentucky Countess: Mona Bismarck in Art & Fashion," by James D. Birchfield, published by University of Kentucky, 1997, 88 pages, softcover in pictorial wraps, 9.5" by 7.5". Signed and with a brief inscription on the title page by the author. Rare book published in conjunction with an exhibition on the life of Kentucky-born Parisian socialite Mona Bismarck. Primarily biographic in focus, detailing her centrality to high society in Paris and her close relationships with artists, designers, and photographers, from Dali and Edward Steichen to Cecil Beaton, Balenciaga, Yves St. Laurent, and Hubert de Givenchy, among many others. The text is illustrated with numerous period photos, and the book closes with a suite of five great full-page photos of Bismarck taken by Cecil Beaton circa 1930. Rare title in excellent condition.
